Default Lost Lake

This was short trip up rarely visited south branch of Galatea creek. It follows old unmaintained trail to secluded alpine valley below Galatea Peak. In the past I've often looked to Lost Lake from Rummel Pass, but never visited - mainly because of logistics (2 cars needed for 1-way traverse Hwy 40 - Smith Dorrien). There are some Internet opinions out there how trail is horrible bushwhack and lake itself non-remarkable, but this is simply not true. Footbed is always distinct and there are flags at places when it gets briefly obscured by deadfall. (For comparison, it is better than standard Coliseum approach via Patton lookout in Van North Shore). In many ways I found it more enjoyable than main, crowd infested Lilian Lake artery.

Lake itself is quite pretty under impressive cliffs of Galatea Peak. I found secluded spot on south side for lunch, then circled the lake examining animal tracks (moose, goat) in the mud. There are couple of possible extensions, including scramble of ridges at both side of the lake -- as described in Daffern guidebook -- but I simply returned the same way. Couple of photos:
