Default Mount Cumnock

Full TR

Another no-beta mountain in Jasper. The challenge for this one is not the scramble itself, but how to get there. We were glad that the Vine Creek Trail continues down the other side pretty much all the way down to De Smet/Cumnock pass. The trail curves left around Redan. We didn't venture further but we're curious where this trail eventually goes. It's called Old De Smet Range Horse trail on the summit register.

We were the 2nd party signing the register. It was brought up in 2000. Our RT was 10.5 hours on a fast pace. Pretty tiring after Cline/Cumnock back-to-back, but not exhausted.

Nice work on Mt. Cumnock. Mt. Cline is pedestrian, Cumnock is cool. A 1000 people have been up Cline, how many up Cumnock? Less I am sure.

Great news about the Vine Creek trail; I hope others hike that trail to keep it open.

Cheers!

The trail past the warden cabin is actually better than it looks too. If you are heading up there waterproof pants would be quite useful (we got soaked trudging through the waist deep bush covered in morning dew)!

Thanks Kevin,

Yeah honestly I wasn't expect much from this trip but I found a lot more satisfaction afterwards. Discovering a trail that's not shown on any map, first ascending party in 13 years, and so on. Also, saw many rarely seen mountains in an obscured part of Jasper.
