Very nice! Either you're some sort of caribou-whisperer, or you spend so much time hiking around Jasper that the odds are in your favor... oh wait, nevermind.

Jasper-envy.

Appropriate name though,

that's some kind of green.

Thanks for the info on the regulations for camping outside designated backcountry campgrounds I didn't know how that worked. I took out a camping permit for ski touring in Dolomite Pass a few yrs ago and it was unclear to me areas you can and cannot camp.

Thanks for the report, and beautiful photos as always. Another area I will keep in mind for this coming weekend when I am in Jasper in case I get a free day.

Many years later.. I have been thinking about doing this and my searches for info brought me to this thread. John, Engor, lobo - did you end up doing this? Any idea if it is still possible to get a permit to camp up there?

Yes, you can random camp up in Verdant Pass. It will be difficult to get up there this year though, because the Edith Cavell road will be closed for the entire summer.

Thanks.

I've dayhiked to Verdant too some years back, but think it would be better to explore without having to rush back. Then there is that other pass, can't remember name now, but I know you dayhiked there too,. Some boulders and low shrubs terrain but after that lakes and very beautiful, can link with Tonquin for a loop. Verdant bivi would be perfect, late August and clear bluebird. Jasper is magic, more than Banff for me
