Default ttips Coast Mountains Thread Replacement

Some of you may have made use of local snow observations for Coast Mountains on ttips.com in previous years.

For the moment, a replacement site has been set-up. Not sure how vigorous it will be, but the link is http://teleskimark.myfreeforum.org/sutra379.php#379

Cheers, and have a safe ski season...

Fun is where you make it...

Thanks for posting Mitch, always valuable observations in my opinion, the more quality inputs the better. Thanks for sharing (and contributing).

Wow. Didn't realize Telemark Tips had succumbed. I hope it's replacement doesn't turn out to be TGR which appears to be full of pre-adolescent wankers who talk a whole lot more than they actually ski. But, then talk is always cheap.

I don't think there is a replacement, Sandy. Just the linked site that was set up by a former contributor. Not much sense putting anything on TGR as there's a lot of static on that site.

Thanks Mitch, an excellent new euphemism for bullshit.

I would like to add that any backcountry users are welcome to contribute to the above forum. Useful information would include:
  • amounts of new snow observed
  • location of observation
  • any signs of instability, including avalanches, sluffs, whumpfing sounds, etc
  • nature of instability: slabs, loose snow, depth of failure plane
  • weather obs, including wind speed and direction, precipitation form, temperatures, etc

In the past, this thread was used by other recreationists and professionals for understanding current conditions. Don't be shy...the more info that is collected, the better it informs those who use it.

Just haven't made this a part of Clubtread because I have no wish to clog the CT server with many reports and lots of photos...

A friend of mine created a simple web database system for sharing text based conditions reports. It's still under development but the basic functionality is there. You can sign in with your google, facebook, etc account.

A local Vancouverite has designed this website as a conditions logbook: http://quicond.com/

The more people that use it, the more useful it will be.

Oops. Total redundant post. Scott had it covered.

Packrat. Is there a thread for the Coast Mountains on that site or did I just do a bad search?

Thanks, Paul.

Shinsplints. I know the webmaster is concerned about photos and such and I don't really see avy conditions being of interest to most CT'ers, so thought we'd put stuff somewhere else. Hadn't seen the backcountrytalk thread...
