yesterday was fenced off leash dog park trial, had no idea what to expect...
She was very social, tolerated multiple interested dogs that were playful, ganging up, and stood her ground on some rougher bigger ones, and showed a frisky, horny male how to hit the dirt the hard way.

Recall was a bit lacking, but had some, once more tired and other dogs gave up on her.
Ball playing was excellent and returned a few of them, Stamina was surprisingly lacking but she also never really stopped and pushed 100%, more routine and real hikes will fix that. Going really well so far, only 1 week into it.

All good so far.
went near a gun range to see if she spooked from those noises, no, she don't mind at all. check

Took her for truck ride in the bush truck, tied to cab cross center, she likes it, even in rain, check

mountain bike rides, she loves , check

I was flat out 12 gear, she was not even breaking her slow gallop stride, dang...she is fast
Bad weather, she don't mind, check, hmm, wow, I'm impressed. Cuddly as heck, but defensive at abnormal noises within a split second and not cuddly anymore...

Dang, that's near taking on both rolls and character of PoohBear and Gin, its quite an eye opener and respected.

Last Sunday we took Savanna for her first real hike to McKay lake on the Mount St. Benedict trail. She did really well. We've bonded really well with her over the past two weeks. She stays close to her pack and listens well for the most part. Being a hound, she will always need to be watched closely - when she picks up a scent it's hard to get her attention back. All in good time. She's only 18mths.

Savanna started a new diet ,its mostly outside chair cushions with a fabric topping, with a side of umbrella bits, then her usual food and treats, good girl. Fun.

Also got in into the green house and drank a bunch of water laced with miracle grow, great, like she aint big enough already

Ended up doing the Slollicum lake, "old school route", better and worse than I have seen it in the last 20 years, but a great bushy wilderness trip. Savanna did exceptionally well, wow 3 weeks later. she is super strong and confident now and loves off trail, lakes, summits and camping, really amazing at the behaviour and physical changes in this short period. She has filled out in the important muscle group, areas after these pictures, likely around 85 running lean with a top diet.
She loves it.

I see photo uploader is being extra bitchy tonite, cant even take a simple Jpeg fom a 150$ cam without manual resizing.

Aqua Terra & Spunky: Congratulations on the new member of your family! She is gorgeous You are doing such a bang up job with her and I love the photos...keep them coming

I've had Rhodesian Ridgebacks all my life, since I was 6 years old. My current dog (see my avatar) is the first non-ridgeback I've ever had (although the colouring is similar...seems I have a "type"!)

RRs need a firm hand (which you're clearly communicating to her). If you were to boil it down to the one thing they excel at, it's standing their ground. They respect leadership and fairness and are loyal as hell. I'm so happy that she ended up with you; too many times, people are taken with their striking looks and once they get them home, realize that the dog is way more than they can handle.

Looking forward to hearing about your canine adventures!

Hi Puppypower!

Haven't had a chance to post for a while, thanks for the reminder! She's a great dog so far and yes, very strong minded but she's got a good fight on her hands with us! I can see why she was returned twice to the Pound. She's quite the dog but also absolutely wonderful in so many ways.

We took her for her 1st backpack a couple of weeks ago to Slollicum Lake. She did wonderful! Here's a couple of pics from that outing:

She is ... so ... tall! We're still trying to figure out her mix. She's taller than average RR's from what I gather.

Shes doing well and is a lot of fun, her personality makes us laugh outloud daily as she is such a clown, as many RR seem to be..
Playtime is quite rough and exhausting but she really loves it and needs it, still cant outrun her flat out on a mountain bike on level gravel road.
she is fast. she does tend to make some trouble like young kids would, like the picture below explains...
