Grouse Grind - SHOCKING!

Apparently the Grouse Grind was closed for part of the day due to downed powerlines... Heard that it was closed, but thought initially that it was a mudslide similar to the one that closed 99...

I was planning to go early Saturday but was told the last quarter of the trail was icy. Was planning today but with the rain I changed my mind. Now I'm glad I did. Did anyone get up this weekend at all? I was wondering what the conditions are like near the top with all this ugly weather.

Hey Gang

I have been snowboarding for most of the winter so I have not been around. I went up the Grind yesterday evening and the last quarter was icy but do able. Just go slow and it should not be a problem.

I have the whole trail to myself which was very nice everthose the weather was not all that great. I will take it over a hot day with rows and rows of hikers.

I got as far as the first quarter late yesterday, then turned around because I hadn't told anyone where I was (I meant to go shopping instead, but curiosity got the best of me). Regretted turning around within 5 minutes. That part of the trail seemed to be in ok condition.

I did the Grind late Sunday afternoon in that heavy rain squall that came through. There is a little ice on the trail above the 3/4 mark, but the trail is less slippery today than it was on Wednesday. It was raining at the top and the rain was melting the snow and ice pretty quickly. That said, the temperature is supposed to drop overnight so I'd expect fresh snow up there by Monday.
