The superior extensor retinaculum is transverse crural ligament of foot that extends from the ankle to the heelbone
After coming back from hike last week I developed serious inflammation and pain in lower shin of my left leg the following day. Basically there was red ribbon across my shin right where this ligament is, with redness extending towards the knee. Soft, warm almost hot to the touch and couldn't bend my foot. After home R.I.C.E treatment (Rest, Ice, Compress, Elevate) for several days it is now getting better. This is same foot where I have large bunion, which is causing overall foot deformity that led to plantar couple of years ago, which I resolved with inserts, wraps etc. I was pushing myself too hard whole September -- several ~35km 1000m+ elevation hikes --- but I've done these kind of things before, this is first time I had this kind of problem.
I will eventually visit specialist but I already suspect what they are going to say -- don't do these kind of long days, rest etc. I will NOT do bunion surgery. Does anyone have experience with problems with this ligament? And what would you recommend / find helpful?
