Default Family overnight hikes near Calgary

Hello everyone !
We are flying in the last week of august to Calgary.
We love overnight hikes and we haven't been to western canada so far
The thing is that we are coming with three children (8/6/8m) and I wonder if any of you is familiar with overnight hikes that might work with children. In other words - maximum 10 km per day, no steep climbing and safe campground. We will to the hike to Aylmer lookout ( and I wonder if you have other ideas (Not necessarily in Banff)

Thanks in Advance

One idea would be Point campground at upper Kananaskis lake

Undemanding hike in, can do loop on return and quite scenic (current banner photo on ClubTread was taken there). Other idea would be Elbow lake base with day hikes to places like Rae Lake or Rae glacier or Tombstone lakes.

I wish you were closer to Berg Lake. I always suggest this as thee best, family friendly hike out there. Lots of stops. Safe. Beautiful in and out. I took my kids when they were 10 and 7 and even did snowbird pass. Not entirely safe, and not for new hikers, but we were extra precautions and did it without incident. Did it another time with other moms and kids and they all want to go back. Put it on the agenda!

Default Kananaskis Backpacking With Child

Hello all. I am planning my 5yr old daughters first backpacking trip. I did the Northover Ridge Loop a couple of years ago and the scenery was breathtaking. Definitely not a trip for a child, but I remember passing Point Campground along the way. Looking at my map, it looks like a nice short distance for her first “backcountry” trip. We will probably stay 2 or 3 nights so I’m wondering if we should stay at Point the whole time, or make our way to Fork campground for a night. I had lunch at Hidden Lake on my trip and found it to be quite a gem so if we stay at Point we would be doing little day trips to Hidden Lake and the Falls. The only other day trip hikes I can find look to be decommissioned trails so I’m looking for any other day trip ideas. Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated!
