ie."...ummmm yeah, I think we'll be ok, "
" We have plenty of time, dont worry, "
"That should be enough rope,"
"I think we should go this way,"
"you're good, you're good...a bit more to the...."
"DAMN...ok next time we'll do it this way."
"[email protected]% damn stupid peices of sh*# bugs."

The classic is "I know a short-cut". For people with access to Bivouac, check out Graeme Pole's short treatise on short-cuts:http://www.bivouac.com/ExpPg.asp?ExpId=116

My personal favourites are "it's right around the corner" or "about 20 minutes more.."

and "did you bring/pack the..(add item here)....."

followed by "that doesn't look so hard"

A true story:

It was 1988. I was doing a climb on Yamnuska with a mountain group. I was just about going to take a stab at tackling an underhang by letting go and 'going for it'. What do I hear the climb leader scream frantically to my belayer:

"Don't let go of the rope. Pick it up!!

----------------------------------------
After hiking for 35 years I still haven't reached the end of the trail.
