4-5 day backpacking suggestions
not sure what the status of the rockwall trail will be in two weeks time so we are thinking of alternatives in case the fire near numa is still burning (Parks Canada is considering closing it for the season).

looking for something 4 or 5 days long and preferably without having to deal with reservations as it will be a last minute decision. willing to consider hiking anywhere within one days travel from vancouver. we have two cars to shuttle or would prefer loop over in and out hike.

rockies suggestions especially appreciated.

Are you comfortable off-trail? The David Thompson Highway - Owen Creek - Michele Lakes - Pinto Lake - Cataract Valley and on route doesn't require reservations and can take 4-5 days, with the exact route and endpoint depending on how many days you want to do and how far you want to walk each day. Beautiful country.

Otherwise, many of the other big Rockies trips do tend to need reservations (Bow Valley Highline, Skyline, Robson, etc.)

Probably at the limit as far as your driving , but if you head to Jasper you could likely get onto the Tonquin Valley and having two vehicles allows you to do it as a loop.
Another trip where I can pretty much guarantee you will have no problem getting on would be Athabasca Pass. Very historical as far as the fur trade etc.

Not in the Rockies but I liked Stein Valley so much I would do it again in a heartbeat. And I will when time allows. The car shuffle is rather long but worth the effort. We did it in 7 rather lazy days, spent an extra day at Stein Lake. It is definitely tougher than the Rockwall Trail, routefinding required.

How about the Potato Range? Eryne was there last year and said it was awesome
