Also a good book is the National Outdoor Leadership School one that I have that is out of print, good background, but they also put on courses.

Outward Bound has good courses, same with the Alpine Club of Canada.

Finally if you really want to learn how to forage out here, http://northernbushcraft.com/index.htm a site that lists what is edible, try small bites first and make sure your identification of the plant is spot on.

@ Richard, I dunno about small bites first If you're not sure what it is, don't advice consider putting it in your mouth at all. Deathcaps are slowly trickling further West and they do look as enticing as the candies from 7Eleven. <wink> If you're not 101% on knowing what it is... leave it be.
