WARNING TO ALL BACK COUNTRY USERS

I WANT TO CAUTION ALL PEOPLE VENTURING TO THE WILDERNESS AREAS OF OUR
TERRITORY. ON MAY 21ST AND 22ND A GROUP OF SQUAMISH NATION MEMBERS WENT TO THE ASHLU VALLEY TO ENJOY TRADITIONAL ACTIVITIES AND RETURNED TO FIND THAT SOMEONE HAD VANDALIZED THEIR VEHICLES.

BRAKE LINES WERE CUT, TIRES DEFLATED, LUG NUTS LOOSENED AND ESSENTIAL ENGINE COMPUTER WIRES DESTROYED.

THERE ARE ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES OCCURRING IN THE ASHLU MINE VICINITY AND
A STRONG CAUTION IS BEING PUT OUT FOR YOUR SAFETY.

INCIDENT OR SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY TO THE LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY AS
WELL AS THE SQUAMISH NATION PEACEKEEPERS.

DO ENJOY CAMPING AND RECREATIONAL/TRADITIONAL ACTIVITIES THROUGHOUT
OUR BEAUTIFUL TERRITORY, JUST USE CAUTION AS THERE ARE PEOPLE OUT THERE THAT CAN POTENTIALLY CAUSE GREAT DAMAGE AND JEOPARDIZE YOUR WELL-BEING.

I have not been on here much, if at all, since i signed up, but i caught this thread...

As a Prospector who has worked with leaching chemicals, please be aware that ALL the mine tailings at the ASHLU MINE, and around it in the woods, are contaminated with SODIUM CYANIDE. SC is used for leaching gold out of the ore and concentrates.

IT IS EXTREMELY DEADLY, breathing it in in small amounts, contact with it, or accidental ingestion will kill you within minutes. Ingestion will kill you in seconds.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, DO NOT let your kids or you or your friends touch any of the tailings, dirt, or drums, or machinery around the ASHLU mine.... the Ministry of Mines HAS done a cleanup of the area, but there is STILL copious amounts of SC lying around. Looks like whitish clumps.

While i realize this thread was about vandalism of personal property....due to the site i felt i had to pass along the safety warning.

WHY ARE THEY SHOUTING?!

On a second reading-between-the-lines of the letter after Ryan's comment, it sounds like they might have discovered a grow op. I know of a planting crew who's boat was destroyed after the crew cut and bagged some non-native plants...

Of all the things these vandals have with them, I doubt intelligence is one of them.

As an aside, it has to be a weird coincidence but in the latest BCMC Newsletter Alastair has a story from a trip he did back in 2004 to Jimmy Jimmy from the Pokosha turn off via an old mine. It involved rotweillers, tractors, RCMP in balaclavas hiding in bushes, a couple of hoodlums and a man on a dirtbike getting attacked by a Samurai Sword.
