Grouse Mountain resort announced on Monday that it retained American commercial realtor CBRE to assist in marketing and selling its facilities.

A spokesperson for the McLaughlin family (the resort's longtime owners) said the family is selling their 12,000 acres and its operations to pursue other interests.

pretty sure all these sub 1500m ski hills are toast weatherwise for great skiing for some time now. Need to survive on alternate offerings beside snow skiing.

Add five stories to the Chalet with some extended views... And improve all the hiking trees up there for general public access and safety. Add swimming pools, sauna, corner grocery store, etc.............plus the wild west show to be expanded to include bare wrestling feats.

I've been abseiling off the top of the tallest condo on Burnaby Mountain (and thus the lower mainland) for a month now, the views on a clear day are unreal.

The Globe and Mail is reporting that Grouse is expected to be sold to a Chinese investment firm for 200 million.

Its time to restrict foreign investment in Canada. Too many of our assets are coming under control by foreign companies.

Does it really matter whether it's a Chinese company or Canadian company that owns it? Both will be concerned only with the bottom line.

Not to engage in a CT political poop storm (God knows those were awful things before) but If Canadians want freedom to buy property and invest in businesses in other countries then others must have that freedom to do so here. Canadians who want Grouse in Canadian hands are free to be a good capitalists, raise the cash and buy it themselves. Yes, the place is dear to many of us. I learned to ski on that mountain in the 1970's and still love it for hiking to this day. That said, it's a ski hill. Americans bought whistler blackcomb the chinese bought grouse. Still, it's a ski hill.

Yeah it does matter. Other countries restrict foreign ownership so no reason why we cant. Foreign companies do not appreciate our country they only want the buck. How do you like "Trump" tower in Vancouver?

I don't care what building owners build or how they label their buildings, as long as they comply with the building codes and local bylaws.

If we worry how foreign corporations may act, then we should enact laws to control their behavior.

That's all I have to say.

For the last 16 years BC has been for sale to the highest bidder. Hopefully that will now end for a while.
