Default Mount Freda and Emma Lake questions?????

Has anyone been up there, this year,or any other time? Thinking of trying on Sunday, wondering how far up my car will make it? Same question for Emma Lake too

Haven't been to Emma Lake this year. Even if you can't drive far up the branch road, it's not unpleasant walking by logging road standards - mostly in the shade.

Thanks MOW I've pretty much decided on Freda for tomorrow,my problem is with the logging roads. They are doing a LOT of logging, and I don't have a radio. I get Sun/Mon off,and Mon. to Fri. it's just not cool for the Cavalier to be up there LOL!
From reading your TR on Emma Lake,I want a couple of nights for that one I also need to get a backpacking tent because the roof on the cabin has caved in due to the snowpack this year! The locals all agree that late Sept.or early Oct. would be a good time to go,no bugs. There's a couple of cabins up Freda,so I'm hoping to hit one of those tomorrow night

That's a shame about the roof; that cabin is obviously an ongoing labour of love.

PR community forest has provided funds for a new roof for the Emma cabin - believe it will be going on later this year. You might be able to get a bit of a way up the branch road with the Cav, but the stream crossing will definitely be a show stopper.

Mount Freda - two different approaches, be careful which one you take! Going by memory, I think it's D branch that you should take for the trailhead.

Is the cabin more or less wrecked then for this year?

No, not wrecked. Just roof looking a little sad.

Picture is from the Emma Lake group on Facebook, taken about 2 weeks ago.

Geez. Think it's still snowy there?

Also, is the cabin habitable?

Yes, it's my understanding it's useable. Might be almost snow free by now.

The cabin is able to be used with no problem. The damage looks worse than it really is. We (The Knuckleheads Winter Recreation Society) have flown in all the materials to do the repair to the roof in the spring of 2012 once the snow is gone. Thanks to the community forest for all the donations of funds to make it a reality. We were up 2 weeks ago and there was fresh snow at the cabin and the lake is still half frozen from last year. I would suspect that there will be more snow up there now.
