Default Mount Nelson

I haven't done much scrambling in this area, but after seeing some friend's photos from last year, I really want to do this one. Does anyone know if it's been done this year? I wonder what the snow conditions are like. On the Alberta side snow seems to have stuck around for longer than usual.

Are you talking about Mount Nelson near Nelson, BC. If so, it is a great hike leading to a ridge walk, with a trail not much used past the 5 km mark. Lots of fun blueberries further up, should be best within a few weeks.

Was up there 2 years ago.

I think he is asking about Mount Nelson in the Purcells. It's on the dry side of a dry range so it will probably be fine.

Sonny Bou did a pretty good trip report on Nelson here Marko.

Snow and ice may stymie you if conditions are still not so good.

Thanks Allan. The same people that inspired Sonny are the ones that I was referring to. Their pictures are here:

oh i see sonny also has those links on his website. anyway, i think last year the conditions were much better. this year we've had a bit of a colder summer. Hopefully there isn't that much snow and I can share a successful trip report too.

The nice thing about Nelson is that you can see it clearly from 30km away and will know if snow might be an issue. Snow did stay late but we've had some hot weather and it should be good now.

Kyle was up there a couple weeks ago and summitted despite snowcover, so I suspect you should be fine.
