Cool From Tropical to Boreal

Hi Adventurers!

I have arrived in Canada in mid August. I'm here from Brazil!

I love the outdoors and has spent my whole life hiking, off the grid camping, bushcrafting, surfing and scuba diving. Most of it done in Brazilian Jungles and Rain forests.

Can say I am really excited to be in Canada and trying something new. I will live here for at least 5 years. Expect to get a lot of back country experience in your gorgeous boreal forests.

So far, i have managed only a two nights off at Harrison Mills area. Nothing fancy, just trying to figure what would be to spend nights outside on a cold and rainy weekend.

As per preference, I more into lightweight gear. Having experienced some Military SARs training in Brazil, I am comfortable to go out with no pack, only hammock, wool blanket and tarp around a hydration pack and vest with simple gear. Though down there we had warmer weather. not so sure i would spend a night out of a sleeping bag here in Canada.

Any how, if anyone could give me tips on nice places close to metro Vancouver where I could hike for an overnight, I'd be very glad!

Think Mt. Seymour would be closest in, suitable for your needs. A short hike in and some places to put up a tent in the snow and get the outdoor experience you seek. Have seen a few tents up on Brockton Point and to the end of the Dog Mountain trail.

Hiking is what keeps you young of mind and heart. When the going gets tough, the tough get going..............

Welcome to the community!

Sounds like, and by the looks of the photos, you have some very cool trips to share

Check out some of the trip reports for the trails K mentioned above. I'm not familiar with the Vancouver area to offer my own suggestions.

What are we making in the third picture? (Yum!)

Thanks for the tip! Planning on it already.
Just figuring out some off trail way up there, and I'll be doing a one nighter.

Yes! lots to share!
I am reading and planning a one night camp in early December. or at least when i finish my finals

By the way... the food in the pot was during a weekend some buddies and I tried to emulate a survival situation.

We took to the jungle only a type of root veggie each one (400g max). a live chicken, and 4 granola bars. that should be shared by 5 guys. for the whole weekend (Friday morning counting). We could fish and trap animals too.

It was a lot of fun!

in that pot, was the chicken, veggies, bamboo stems we collected on the jungle. no salt, no pepper, no spices... it was great! lol
