Only post in the forum that matches your topic. The board is divided into several forums with sub-forums. If you pay attention and read the titles of the forums, you should be able to figure out which forum to post in.
Be nice to each other. You may debate points with intensity, and voice alternative perspectives, but stick to the issues and do not attack other people for voicing their viewpoints. In short, your messages must be respectful of others, even if your viewpoints are very different. Practice self moderation. Profanity and insults will not be tolerated. Agree to disagree. This applies to both the forums and forum PM .
Take personal conflicts and complaints offline. If you have a concern about the nature or tone of the content of a post, or if you are offended or irritated by something included in a post, or if you simply have a personal problem with another member, make an attempt to resolve the matter by sending a polite, respectful, private, off-line message to the offending party, OR, contact the moderator and describe your concerns. Handle it off-line, not on-line.
Refrain from posting meaningless threads, one word (or short) non-sense posts, or the such.
Refrain from turning threads into glorified instant messages. Take it to email or IM!
No advertising or links to advertising or "Spam" is permitted.
- Advertising or Spam is defined as posting a link for the purpose of selling, soliciting or promoting by someone that has ownership or other "vested interest" to the web site involved, including efforts to promote other online forums or web sites (with competing features) by web site owners or members.
- Posts and links about fundraising (including nonprofit fundraisers) are NOT permitted.
- Only links to personal home pages are allowed in signatures, member profiles and in the submit a site section.
- Links to helpful web sites (commercial or otherwise) are allowed when they are posted by someone without any "vested interest" AND whose purpose is NOT to solicit, advertise, promote, fundraise, etc.
- These rules include forum messages, signatures, and forum emails.
No cross posting. Post your message once, to the appropriate forum and nowhere else or it will be locked or deleted without warning.
Don't post just to increase your number of posts. If you have nothing to say on a certain matter then don't post. The number of posts on this board has no direct relation to the experience of a member. Remember, no one likes a post *****.
Each member is allowed one login account. Registering with multiple accounts is not allowed. Accounts found to be duplicate in nature will be deactivated.
Thread Owners (those that START a thread) have certain "rights". These include:
- The right to request that their thread be moved or locked.
- They may notify the moderator that unwelcome thread drift is occurring. Upon review, and if it appears a valid complaint, the posts contributing to the thread drift may be edited or removed.
- Threads pulled egregiously off topic may be locked or edited at the thread owner's or moderator discretion.
- Avoid thread drift by starting a new thread when the subject changes. This is especially enforced in the Buy & Sell and Trip Reports sections.

'Pushing' or bumping' threads should be kept to a minimum. In other words, do not post solely in order to make a thread "rise to the top" of the forum. If your thread has no response, then after a reasonable amount of time feel free to respond in case it was just missed. This is better than and preferred over re-posting the same thread.
You must respect the privacy of other members and individuals. Do not post personal information (i.e. addresses, phone numbers, passwords, personal identification numbers, or any other information considered private) without the express permission of the individual.
Be aware of copyright. It is not acceptable to post copywritten information to the forum without consent. While it is not feasible for the administrator to monitor every post on the board, members who observe violations can report these to the administrator for investigation. If it is found to be in violation, it will be removed.
Inappropriate topics for the board.
Although we appreciate hunters for the backcountry knowledge they supply, please keep in mind that this is not a hunting site. Topics that involve hunting are not appropriate for ClubTread. This includes pictures of people with animals that have been shot (i.e. trophy poses or otherwise) and pictures of people who are packing rifles (where it is pretty obvious it isn't a hike but rather a hunt.)
Topics that include prospecting, gold, gold panning, etc., are no longer permitted. Old topics will be left, but new topics started will be removed.
Topics that involve sasquatch, bigfoot, yeti, etc., are no longer permitted. Old topics will be left, but new topics started will be removed.
It should go without saying, but photos of dead animals are not appropriate and will be removed.
Posting referral links is not allowed.
You will not discuss, suggest, engage, or encourage any illegal activity.
Do not post messages that violate Federal, Provincial, or Local laws which include, but are not limited to, anything that violates a copyright, trademark, patent, trade secret, or is bound by NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement).
Use the search function before posting. Chances are your question has already been answered. The search feature is self-explanatory, so with a bit of practice you will quickly find what you want.
Respect netiquette: Lurk and get to know the forum before you post.
Any new thread must have a title with relevant information to the topic you want to discuss. The name of a thread is just like the headline in a newspaper; it helps you to select threads personally relevant for you. Don't use all caps or special characters to draw attention.
Be gentle to new users as they become acquainted with the forum.
Use common sense. Anything that you say or do carries consequences with it. If you find yourself questioning the nature of what you're going to post, then it's probably not safe to post it. Save yourself trouble and ourselves time, think before you post.
Don't quote the entire message that you're responding to, only the pertinent passage. This makes it easier to read for other users.
No SHOUTING. Remember, using ALL CAPITAL LETTERS in posts is considered yelling and rude, plus it is difficult to read.
If it shouldn't be viewed by minors, then it shouldn't be posted to the forums or chat rooms. This is a public, family-friendly forum
Do not post offline personal contact information (ie. your home address, phone numbers etc.) and do not ask for personal information from others. Use of full names (your first and last name) is allowed but discouraged. This is to protect your security and identity.
Never assume that someone is talking to/about you unless they quote you. This avoids a surprising amount of drama.
Although the administrators and moderators of Club Tread Forum will attempt to keep all objectionable messages off this forum, it is impossible for us to review all messages. All messages express the views of the author, and neither the owners of Club Tread Forum, nor vBulletin Solutions, Inc. Infractions & Warnings
The vBulletin software has a built-in tool for tracking unacceptable behaviour. These are called Infractions. If you break a rule on ClubTread, a moderator will issue you an infraction, which will explain what you did and how you can avoid it in the future.
The Infractions work as a point system - each Infraction gives you an amount of points, and if you add up enough points your account can be banned, temporarily or permanently. These points do expire in time, but the history is always there. Repeat behaviour will get you more points, which can result in a ban sooner, and for longer.
Warnings are dealt in the same manner as Infractions, except there are no points given.
There is an Infraction tab on your profile, where you would see any active Infractions or Warnings. This information is only viewable to you and the Mod Team.
