But Candy Shack, you guessed our situation exactly
Sure, it'd be great if we had scores of mountaineering friends (with experience) whose schedules coincided with ours so we could learn from them. But unfortunately, that's not the case. We're also both busy professionals with family responsibilities -- so we value time more than money.
Sounds like taking a pro course is the right way for us to go (although we do plan on connecting with other mountaineers through clubs etc, I just don't want to rely on them to 'teach' me the technical skills).
And it sounds like CWMS is the school to use.
Appreciate all your input -- open to other thoughts as well though.
