Thanks everyone for your input!

But Candy Shack, you guessed our situation exactly

Sure, it'd be great if we had scores of mountaineering friends (with experience) whose schedules coincided with ours so we could learn from them. But unfortunately, that's not the case. We're also both busy professionals with family responsibilities -- so we value time more than money.

Sounds like taking a pro course is the right way for us to go (although we do plan on connecting with other mountaineers through clubs etc, I just don't want to rely on them to 'teach' me the technical skills).

And it sounds like CWMS is the school to use.

Appreciate all your input -- open to other thoughts as well though.

Makes sense, at least in terms of direction (from personal experience won't really agree that CWMS is the best around here). After all, if to take the mountaineering seriously, one needs some form of formal structured and systematic training, as opposed to picking various disconnected pieces here and there - which something like YouTube is full of. Same reasons why nobody would go for a major root canal job with a dentist who self-trained himself on the internet (or learned form friends) , instead of going through medical school.
