Default O(h) Hara. Oh Yes!

Anyone who enjoys outdoors should make an attempt to visit O'Hara; and those who do regularly come back. Mid to late September is by far the best time with crisp air and golden larches setting the area to fire. I've been over a dozen of times and intend to return as long as I can walk. Whole bus reservation scheme is a big joke, so I stopped bothering long time ago -- just powered up the road, 1.5 hrs for 11km or so. Without any real plan - except photography - eventually decided on Alpine Circuit, which I've done several times before. SLR went around the neck and didn't leave the whole day. Up Wiwaxy Gap then delightful descending traverse to Oesa, followed by my favorite part - Yukness ledges; at times scrambly, but actually very straightforward and easy. Opabin plateau is on fire; don't think I ever saw it like this. Photography took precedence and I decided to abandon last part to All souls Prospect, in order to catch the 6:30pm download. Couple of pictures that don't do justice:

Glorious shots, all of them. Amazing on the screen. Must have been breathtaking to actually be there.

nicely done. I did the same thing exactly a week before in the snow. Walked up the road and was fishing for a while......until my hands froze. Back to LeRelais for carrot cake and tea. You can also go in via Morraine Lake, over Wenkchemna pass and into Eagle Eyrie. Then over the Opabin Pass onto the glacier and ultimately the plateau. You'd like that......keep it in mind for next year

btw. I did that Elbow Lk-Rae Lk-Burns Lk-Hwy 40 3 day loop I was speaking to you about. Mesmerizing.

Wenkchemna - Opabin traverse has been in the workings for years .. easily done in a day for fit team. Problem is transport (2 cars) and brief travel on Opabin glacier, although I hear it can be skirted on the side as well; here's how it looked the other day:

[Opabin Tarn at top of Opabin Plateau; Pass and glacier mid-center right]

Couple more pics of the area, as light was really superb that day:

[Odaray reflections at O'Hara shoreline]

[Looking back to O'Hara basin from last part of Yukness Ledges, just before boulder hop to East Opabin trail]

[Views from Opabin Prospect along West Opabin trail. Gotta be here much earlier as Schaffer blocks the sun early. Mary Lake bottom left]

It's not terribly safe however attempting to skirt it-when I did and viewed it this summer-as it puts one in the direct line of rockfall. I would still suggest travel on the glacier....roped up of course. There are those who do travel it without being tied in, but there is the risk and the unforgiving consequencesAs for the two cars I/we can avoid that as if we chose the right day we could get picked up, or dropped off

Glad to see you had better luck than we did.. No way I would have gotten shots as nice as these even if we had!
