Default North Coast Trail

I've been having problems trying to post pics. so I will write the trail report first and hopefully can add some pics afterwards.
Day 1 (June 27th 2016)
We were supposed to go in on the saturday but were able to postpone it. (it was raining pretty hard and I prefer to at least start a trip dry)
So we heading in Monday to Shushartie Bay via the water taxi along with 10 other people.
I enjoyed the 1st day although the mud went on and on. Our feet were soaked by the time we arrived at Skinner Creek. It took us 8 hours. Skinner creek was a great campsite with water close by and some nice trees to set the tent up behind for shelter.

Day 2 Skinner Creek to Cape Sutil
Lots of rope work today. But we didn't have any problems scaling the banks. (lots of roots and the ropes really help) Cape Sutil was beautiful and we were able to kinda dry out our feet with the help of a campfire.

Day 3 Cape Sutil to Irony Creek.
We almost got lost a couple of times and I realized it was possible to miss the trail. I regretted not bringing my GPS. Irony creek was another nice campsite.

Day 4 Irony Creek to Laura Creek
This was a 12 k day and when we arrived at Laura Creek we discovered we would be all alone that night. (the other groups had decided to push on to Nissen Bight) We didn't like Laura Creek much as there was very little beach above high tide and the tent pads in the forest were dark and gloomy. But I was too tired to go on. (I'm 62 and as usual didn't bother training beforehand) High tide was at 10:30 pm and I kept a watchful eye out the tent flap but in reality it didn't even come close. At this point the weather had changed from beautiful to sporadic rain.

Day 5 Laura Creek to Eric Lake.
We had planned to stay at Nissen Bight but the weather was poor so we just kept walking. We had 2 possible shuttle pickups as we thought if the weather was good we would stay an extra day. But things seemed to be getting worse and seeing that we had spent 4 days at Cape Scott the year before we decided to head out.
We couldn't believe the hordes of people heading into Cape Scott for the long weekend. (At lot of these people don't believe in rain gear and were soaked but happy as hell.)

Day 6 Eric Lake to the trail head.
We made it to the welcome shelter of the trailhead to wait for the shuttle. It was really raining now but again there were lots of people heading in. (maybe San Josef bay) A lot of them didn't have pack covers or anything. I guess when you live on Vancouver Island these kinds of things are meaningless.
As usual the best part of the trip was the 2 hour stopover at the pub in Holberg followed by a good meal and plenty of beer at the Quarterdeck pub in Port Hardy with some new found friends that we met on the trail.

Thanks for the update - we're heading in to Cape Scott soon, and I've heard that the trail in is pretty wet and muddy this year. How bad was it?

The trail into Cape Scott seems pretty good when comparing it with the North Coast trail. That being said there were quite a few muddy patches when we were there. I would definitely wear gators.

Great - thanks! Yeah, I figured gaiters would be a must! After all, it's a BC coastal hike :-)
