Default Rex Peak 01-08-2015

Made it just over 6km up the Hog Creek fsr, the road headed on in a southerly direction, a spur went up to the left in the direction i wanted to go it looked steep narrow so i parked and headed up, couple of hundred meters and i turn left again at another junction, the road gets very steep and narrow and soon ends in a rough clearing. a trail the width of a path continues up then ends at a rock slide, i cross a ravine then head up a sparsely treed slope. soon the views open up.

Carpenter Lake.

On top of a sub pea,k to the South West, i get a good view of the Rex area and the Shulaps to the North.

Rex N2 and the Shulaps area in the distance.

Rex SE1 along the ridge and the Sebring group in the distance.

Down to the col and up big bits of rock i eventually hit the lower summit i can see a huge cairn on the main summit.

Decide to continue along the ridge to SE1 and from there drop down and across to the col Southwest of Rex. difficult getting down from the peak lots of loose stuff the further i get the easier it becomes.

the ridge to SE1.

Looking back at Se1.

Spent the night at Marshall Lake Rec site, small, an outhouse and a couple of tables. Definite signs of smoke to the West even nearby peaks seem hazy, seemed to get worse as the day went on, so i decided not to remain in the area for another day.

Nice views on the drive to Lillooet, reminds me of Northern California or Arizona.

Looks like an awesome area to explore. Was up at Joffre Lakes the next day and as we went through Pemberton the smoke from the Boulder Creek fire was so thick looking towards the Meadows and the Hurley. Luckily by the time we were up the hill towards Joffre we were out of the thick of it. That fire is massive.

That is one honking' big summit cairn, thanks for the report. I have not seen many photos from the area, so I'm glad you posted this report too
