Default Lighthouse Park May 18/14

This weekend called for a light hike for a small group from our club, RMOC in Maple Ridge.

Six of us met near the Lonsdale Quay, and from there we drove along Marine Way taking the scenic route to get to the Lighthouse Park Trailhead.

They supply a considerable supply of copies of the map, so you will find one at the info board at the start. Nice trail network, if you were to explore every single loop, likely will take you a full day. We did half of them starting from the east most heading south, and then moving west, view the lighthouse, and then to the point just past it and up along near the shore to the top before heading east back to the parking lot.

Check this link for the downloading of a pdf copy of the map:

http://www.lighthousepark.ca/wp-cont...ochure_map.pdf

Pictures:
Started from the main central trail... headed over to the salal loop and down the trail of "Valley of the Giants", onwards to Eagle Point.

/From there to the Lighthouse, and then over to the point just west and near of the Lighthouse. Access down by the west beach trail.

After enjoying an early 1/2 hr lunch at 11 am, we headed north on the shore pine trail. Lots of interesting barnacles and seaweed on the rocks, at low tide.

Juniper Point another nice spot for a good view west and northwest.

From there headed northeast on Shore PIne Trail, then turned west to a point of rock jutting out into the water. another nice view.

And a final tribute to a giant Douglas-Fir before we headed back to the parking lot.

Trip started around 9:10 a.m. and ended just before 1 pm; for a less than 4 hour easy hike through the park with many stops including lunch.

Just a wonderful park for kids of all ages. Big trees, naked trees (kid calls arbutus that), rocks to climb and scamper over, birds, starfish, crabs, sculpins, even the occasional sea lion or seal.

Juniper point is geographically such a fantastic place right at the mouth of Howe Sound -- I get bit of goosebumps every time I go for a visit. If you are lucky, sunsets are specially gorgeous. Couple of pics from Oct 20, 2015:

Zeljkok, those pics are fantastic. You just gave me the idea to go there for sunset views Thanks! There was a gorgeous sunset as of this writing not too long ago but I was unavailable.

And KARVITK, yes that lighthouse park is a gem for us Vancouverites I don't know where we'd be without it. You don't even need all that much (it's still nice) to go to the gulf islands for a gorgeous coastline AND NICE VIEWS!

I've been to the park many a times.

What sort of camera did you use to get that shot of the lighthouse zeljkok? Did you use any special effects? I've done that picture but it's nothing like yours. I really like it. I'm almost jealous

no "special effects". Did not even have a tripod, just leaned camera on the rock. Some post-processing later, mainly to crop/straighten and enhance colors/contrast a bit.

Thank you; pic could be much better, but I was in a hurry. Lens is more important than camera, but key is to have good light -- be here ~30 mins past sunset (assuming it is not cloudy) and have a tripod.
