Well, your options are pretty much endless. But I might recommend starting off at the Browne Creek sign at Dinner Rock park. After a couple of kms the trail loops - go left, follow the signs to Hurtardo Bay. Pup can explore the ocean there. Once you come back up the hill, follow the signs to Hurtardo Point. Great viewpoint overlooking Savary and the Ragged (Copeland) Islands. We sometimes see whales here. Continue on your loop, and you will be directed back to Browne Creek again. It's about a 3 - 3 1/2 hour loop. Plus then you go get to visit Nancy's Bakery in Lund!

This is a very dog friendly community.

The Tees Kwat trail from Gibson's Beach over to the switchback in Wildwood also has some good places to take a dog to the beach. This can also be done as a loop, but requires too much explaining for a quick reply. You could try googling it.

Both these hikes are north of Powell River.

Now I think I may have misinterpreted your message. Did you mean 1/2 day hikes, or 1 - 2 day hikes? If you mean 1 - 2 day hikes, then obviously I would have different suggestions.

Hah! to the sun part. I have given up and am going to Australia next week to find sun. Drastic, but it should work (although it's raining in Sydney right now ...) The smoked salmon empanadas at Nancy's are recommended. Have fun.

The loop on the Hurtado Bay trail actually starts after about 3 km, not 2 km. Pass a mysterious sign stating "To Be Contined" and cross Browne Creek on the new bridge, and you will know you are on the right path.

I enjoyed the Appleton canyon and Manzanita Bluffs sections of the Sunshine Coast Trail when I hiked it last year. Given the numerous road access points, you could definitely hike a portion of the SCT.

Well, it is pretty much paradise, so come join us! There are not many downsides to living here (unless your life demands Costco and London Drugs and Home Depot and traffic).
