Default Parks Canada Reservations 2016

For those of you not aware, Park Canada is changing the reservation processes for 2016. Rather than the 90 day rolling booking window, they are opening reservations for the entire summer (including WCT) in January. The specific date depends on the park. Lake O'hara seems to open in April, not entirely sure if this applies to backcountry reservations

Wow, they're really not going out of their way to publicize this.

It looks like of the mountain parks, only Jasper is switching over to this online whole-year-at-once reservation setup, while Banff, Kootenay, and Yoho retain the Phone-three-months-ahead system they've all been on until now.
Only a few parks in general seem to include Backcountry Reservations on the list here, though outside of the mountain parks, I don't know how many have backcountry campgrounds.

Jasper's backcountry reservations are going live tomorrow at 8AM MT at http://www.pc.gc.ca/jasperbookbackcountry. Other parks are gradually brought online over the coming years, as it takes quite a bit of effort to get the system set up for each park.

Worked like a charm for the Skyline, but as mentioned by others, the rest of the Rockies is operating under the old, idiosyncratic rules. Baby steps....

Glad it worked for you TrailTalk! I hope that Banff will follow suit next year. The online system is so much better than the old phone lines!

Wow, this sucks. West Coast Trail permits opening more than six months early? Everything I read was outdated so I didn't even know this existed. So much for WCT this year I guess. Shoot.

There are walk-on spots available but you may have to wait a day.

I would certainly prefer that the rest of the Parks start online registration, but I did like the 3-months in advance timing. It seemed to me to strike a good balance of allowing you to plan ahead, but not requiring you to have a schedule waaaay in advance.

Really?

New for 2016: all spaces are reservable. No spaces are set aside for standby hikers.
So, probably if somebody doesn't show up... it starts to become a dilemma with the reservations -
