It is named after Werner Himmelsbach, who is a Whistler ACC member and still active in his 80s.

Thinking you are seeing, but not seeing. Thinking you know, but not knowing. This spring is full of a lot of such things.

Hi,

Several months ago ShadowChaser sent me a bunch of updates. Put them in the file and put it online as http://www.brijn.nu/Overviewofhuts_20100601.pdf

If one of the admins is reading, is there a way to edit the second post in this thread. I'd like to update the contents to reflect the new info. But there is no edit option. I guess because it's pretty old.

Tx

Glaciology hut at Bridge glacier (free). (123"34' 50"49') about 10km east of Bridge peak on a prominent nunatuk. I don't know about hiking access, I have only ever helicoptered in there.

Nice one! One of the more remote and obscure huts out there... mentioned in the previous edition of JB's ski guide.

A good friend was up there two summers ago doing glaciology work - I asked her about the hut and she thought it was inaccessible due to glacial recession and the steepness of the nunatak.

... so now it could make for a fantastic monastery

... or a yoga retreat!

Looking at trails in the Golden area I came across the Columbia Valley Hut Society which operate 5 huts in that area. Looks like they are mostly used for back country skiing but the links to the huts also provide summer access info. I think I'd love to spend some days at the Jumbo Pass Cabin.

Cheers!

It is a gorgeous spot and you can get a front row view of where they want to put in lifts and build a village for a year round ski resort 55km from the nearest community with only one road in. Jumbo Pass in the fall with the larches turning colour is one of my favourites.

Any chance someone could rehost the hut PDF? I'd like to have that.
