There were outages downtown?

Geez it would have been a good excuse to quit early today. Next time email me!

You hosted in harbour centre too? I know a few people who had websites go down today because of this chaos.

Thankfully both my work and my condo are 1 block out of the power outtage zone :P

I got the day off, or at least half a day because of the power being out.
From my understanding it was an electrical fire that took out a fair chunk of the downtown.

Ack, too bad. It looks like my building may be just outside of the grid. (Exscape) So does that mean that Marc and Pikka are both hiking today?

Haha, no wonder CT is so fast from work, my packets aren't even leaving the building!

I run a semi-large datacenter in Harbour Center and we managed to keep all servers up during the power outage through a combination of UPS and generator power, but BOTH of our internet feeds dropped out about 15 minutes apart. From what I am told Generator 7 in HC failed after about 15 minutes run time due to overheating, the generator was designed to be cooled by Process Cooling (a chilled loop running to compressors on the roof) but it wasn't sufficient to cool the generator in this heat.

Anyways... Glad your back up!

Yeah, my understanding is that the generators are water cooled (at least the ones that caused issues) and they couldn't get the water pressure necessary due to the water being used by the fire dept.
